Cabinets are often found in kitchens and bathrooms, but they don’t have to function in an ordinary way to be useful. Whether it’s for storage or a creative aesthetic, there are plenty of places in your home where you can incorporate cabinets. Use some of these ideas to place cabinets in a fashionable, useful manner within your home.
Cabinets As Displays
Cabinets are normally used to store kitchen and bathroom items, but they can also make great display cases as well. If you have a statue collection you want up and out of the way but want it to be visible, cabinets are a good idea. Place cabinets with glass doors and you can protect and see your collections with ease.
Cabinets As Garage Storage
No one thinks about the garage all that often unless it is needed. And storage is always in demand when it comes to the garage. Whether you find old cabinets from someone else’s house or repurpose your own when you are renovating the kitchen, cabinets work great in the garage. When you mount them on the wall, they don’t take up floor space and they are a great place for tools, rags, and other garage necessities.
Cabinets As Built-Ins
When you build shelves around a fireplace or in another area, you are putting permanent built-ins in place. But you might want to use cabinets in some of those areas instead. Cabinets are lovely in appearance and they can hide clutter over. Whether you put DVDs and gaming devices (along with all their wires) in them or books and board games, they can keep things accessible, yet hidden.
Cabinets As Seats
If you have a row of low cabinets inside your entryway, you can put a cushion on top of them and use them as a bench seat. This will come in handy in a number of ways. First, you have somewhere to sit when you need to take off your shoes. And second, you can put the shoes and other items in the cabinets beneath you when you are done. Plus, the cabinets hide things and look nice and streamlined at the same time.
Cabinets As Toy Boxes
When you have kids in the house, there are often endless toys cluttering every room of the house. Place a few cabinets at floor level and allow the children to organize their toys in them. They act as toy boxes, but look much more stylish and fit in better with the rest of the home’s décor.
